AJM Dirt Works LLC 92-2164062 | Government Grant Application

AJM Dirt Works LLC | Application Preview

AJM Dirt Works LLC is seeking a $34,000 government grant to acquire vital equipment essential for their community-focused services. The funds will be allocated to purchase a 2006 Bobcat S-185 Skid Steer with a new engine for $20,000, a 2023 Load Trail Tandem Axle Deck Over Dump Trailer for $11,000, forks for the Skid Steer at $1,250, and a tooth bucket for $2,125. This equipment is crucial for performing concrete, septic, and excavation work, aiming to help local families create homes by providing trustworthy and quality services at fair prices.

The company, co-owned by partners AJM and Austin, plans to expand by involving more family members with expertise in engineering and construction by spring 2024. Their financial goal is to reach $500,000 in annual revenue by the end of year three, with aspirations for a fully self-sufficient women-only crew by year five.

The application emphasizes the importance of funding a small, woman-owned business that prioritizes community and family values over profit. AJM Dirt Works aims to fill a gap in the market where larger contractors overlook residential jobs, particularly smaller ones. The founders’ construction experience enhances their credibility, and their commitment to reliability and integrity sets them apart. With no other women-owned construction crews in the area, this funding represents an opportunity to break barriers and demonstrate that women can lead and excel in trades.

  • Funding Usage

AJM Dirt Works LLC will use the $34,000 in funding to purchase essential equipment for jobs that help families in our community. We will purchase a 2006 Bobcat S-185 Skid Steer with a new engine priced at $20,000, a 2023 Load Trail Tandem Axle Deck Over Dump Trailer priced at $11,000, a set of forks for the Skid Steer priced at $1250 and a tooth bucket for the Skid Steer priced at $2,125. This equipment serves as a foundational pillar to our company. Without it we cannot perform concrete, septic or excavation work. Our goal as a family and female owned Montana business is to help local families turn their houses into homes. We’re bringing our family values into the business to offer reliable, honest and quality work at a price that’s fair for everyone and helps our community members reach their dreams. Funding AJM Dirt Works LLC isn’t just about funding another construction company, it’s about funding families in rural America that are working hard to live a life they’re proud of.

  • Business Plan

My partner Austin and I are currently the two owners of AJM. As we grow in the coming years, we’re hoping to add more of our family members to the business. Austin’s brother, mom and dad both have a lot of experience in engineering and construction work and are looking to join the company in the spring of 2024. The addition of the three of them will greatly increase our work force and make it so we can either run two crews or take bigger jobs that generate more revenue. Our goal is that by the end of the third year in business we are making $500,000 per year. From there we are hoping to continue to grow while keeping our family and small business values at the front of our business. Additionally, I am hoping to have a fully self sufficient women only crew by year 5. Big construction companies don’t value community, they value money. As a small, woman owned, family business, we value other families. Contractors in our area won’t call back most residential properties and especially those with smaller jobs. We are filling a niche and looking out for the families in our area. My partner also has many years of experience as an engineer and inspector for both concrete and septic work. This expertise ensures that we know exactly how jobs are supposed to be done and what makes the highest quality work. As a woman, I’ve always been looked at as incapable or misplaced in construction settings. Women aren’t welcome in the trades, let alone considered leaders. I want to show the industry that women can perform quality work in the trades while leading with grace and integrity. This funding helps me pave a way that not many have dared to go down. This funding is an investment in women, family and community. Help me lead, so those of us on the ground can soar.

  • Self Identified Competition

Billings Concrete, Miracle Concrete and L&D Concrete. All of these concrete companies are doing reputable work in our area. I have had a dozen people tell me they’ve been trying to get a concrete pad poured at their house for months and no concrete contractors in the area will call them back. Our competitors are focused on the big flashy jobs. AJM Dirt Works LLC is focused on the jobs the people need. We’re looking to add a service to the community that goes beyond material goods: reliability. We always call back, we are always honest, we never cut corners and we’re in business to provide reliable work. Our competitors have lost sight of what it means to provide for the community and instead are off chasing the highest numbers they can find, leaving the average folks behind. Additionally, there’s not a single woman owned and operated concrete crew, septic installation crew or excavation crew in the area. With the help of my family and this funding, I am looking to change the way people look at the trades and who they expect to be there. I believe in a world where gender doesn’t define leadership possibilities and work opportunities. I’m here to challenge traditional barriers and find my place as a woman in the trades.
