arctic backpacking and camping | Application Preview
The business is seeking government grants to enhance its operations in Arctic backpacking and camping. The funding will be allocated towards developing tour routes, creating a website, and producing brochures. It will also cover inventory needs, including camping supplies for various temperatures, equipment for tour activities, upgrades to transportation vehicles, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Over the next five years, the business plans to form partnerships within the community and state to offer tourists a comprehensive experience in Alaska. It aims to expand its adventure tour packages and establish a presence in Western Alaska.
The application highlights the owner's 10 years of finance and banking experience, along with over 12 years in camping and backpacking in Alaska. This expertise will facilitate a unique perspective for visitors, particularly as the owner plans to be the first tour guide in the Bering Land Bridge National Preserve, having worked with land management and federal agencies to navigate the permitting process.
The competitive landscape includes a gold mining bed and breakfast in Nome, an adventure tour company focusing on fishing and ecotours near Council and White Mountain, and a birdwatching tour bus service centered on Nome’s history.
The business's competitive advantage lies in its focus on raw adventure, specifically backpacking and camping. By being the first to offer hiking tours in the Bering Land Bridge National Preserve, the business promises visitors a chance to explore significant historical sites, stunning landscapes, and diverse wildlife, all while providing a multi-day immersive journey through the Seward Peninsula.

Business Plan
In the next five years I look to have partnerships developed around the community and state to provide tourist a holistic and opportunity filled trip to Alaska. I look to expand the packages I will offer, and grow into the adventure tour of Western Alaska. I hold 10 years of experience in finance/banking, over 12 years of experience in Alaska camping and backpacking, and will be providing visitors and guest with a perspective of Alaska that is rarely offered. I have worked with land management and federal agencies to understand the permitting process and look to be the first tour guide in the Bering Land Bridge National Preserve.

Self Identified Competition
1.) A gold mining bed and breakfast resort that is located in Nome. They have annually grown their business since inception due to the thirst for adventure people have when coming to Nome. They provide some tours outside of Nome but focus mainly on gold mining at their property. 2.) An adventure tour company based on the eastern part of the Nome region near Council and White Mountain. As they are right on the river, they focus mainly on fishing, bear hunting, and ecotours. They provide tours all over the Peninsula but their main stronghold is on the Council and White Mountain region. 3.) A birdwatching and tour bus style business. They provide visitors that come from cruise ships and other locations with day trips in and around Nome focused on the history of Nome with the Gold Rush and Iditarod. I will offer more of the raw adventure in the form of backpacking and camping. I strive to be the first hiking tour into the Bering Land Bridge National Preserve and provide visitors a chance to view the place where humans walked over from Asia many thousands of years ago. Views of granite tors and caribou and extremely high, along with the chance of viewing many of Alaska's other wildlife and mountains. Emerging the visitors in a multi day journey to see what the Seward Peninsula in Alaska has to offer.
