Lion Heart Pursuits LLC | Application Preview
Lion Heart Pursuits LLC is seeking government grants to support its mission of providing essential training in personal safety and crisis response. The funding will be allocated as follows: approximately $6,000 for the purchase of 500 tourniquet and medical scissor bundles, around $1,600 for developing a website, and about $1,000 for initial printing of class materials. The remaining funds will help secure training venues and cover travel expenses.
The business aims to expand internationally over the next five years, focusing initially on outreach to local schools, small businesses, and community events. Plans include partnering with the Eugene Rodeo to create an operations plan for the upcoming event. The founder intends to continue teaching classes on weekends and hopes to extend services to other states within one to two years. By the end of the five years, the goal is to transition to this business full-time, employing 2-3 associates to aid in teaching and providing outreach to schools and non-profits.
The application emphasizes the urgent need for this type of training given the rise of mass shootings and workplace violence in the U.S. The educational model instills a 'first responder' mindset, offering comprehensive training that combines self-defense and de-escalation techniques in a format accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
Currently, Lion Heart Pursuits faces competition from AVADE Workplace Violence Prevention Training, which focuses on similar topics but operates on a much larger scale within the healthcare sector. However, the company believes it holds a competitive edge due to the founder's extensive experience—over 21 years in military and law enforcement—and a proven track record of successfully delivering this training to state employees. Positive feedback from participants highlights the training's relevance and necessity, reinforcing the case for funding consideration.

Business Plan
Ultimately, I would like to expand to the international market. In the meantime, my five-year goal is to continue outreach to local schools, small businesses, and events in my area (I am consulting with the Eugene Rodeo to develop an operations plan for the upcoming 2023 rodeo). I will continue teaching classes to the general pubic as my work schedule allows (mostly on weekends) and plan to begin providing the training in other states within 1-2 years. At the culmination of five years, I anticipate that I would separated from the Oregon State Police to pursue this business full-time, and have hired at least 2-3 associates to teach the curriculum. Ideally, the business would be at a place where it can sustain providing pro bono outreach and education for schools, non-profits, and community centers. Investors should invest in Lion Heart Pursuits because there is no end in sight to mass-shootings in America. Simply put, this training was needed decades ago and, sadly, the need is only increasing. As we see gun violence, workplace violence, and mass shootings erupting across our nation on a daily basis, and with the lack of meaningful gun and mental health reform, it becomes incumbent upon the individual to keep him or herself safe. My training is focused on teaching the individual to adopt a "first responder" mentality with regards to their own safety, and educating the public on the crisis cycle, the assault cycle, and the pathway to violence. Education in personal safety and de-escalation is also included in my training. I go beyond self-defense, or just de-escalation, or just "Run, Hide, Fight" and instead, combine all of these principles into one, three-hour class that can be attended by anyone, of any physical ability, and of nearly any age.

Self Identified Competition
Unfortunately, I know of only one competitor: AVADE Workplace Violence Prevention Training. I have no attended their training, but by all appearances, they seem to provide much of the same training that I do, but on a much larger scale and geared toward the healthcare industry. I know of no one in my area or even region that is offering the same, comprehensive training that I'm providing. I have real-world experience. With over 21+ years in the military and law enforcement community, and having already taught this exact curriculum to Oregon State employees for the last five years, I know my training is well-received and useful. I have a tremendous amount of positive feedback from the state employees indicating that this training is well-regarded and needed on a much larger stage. As an Oregon State Trooper, I know what it means to encounter someone in crisis. I know how to de-escalate a situation rather than escalate. I know from my combat deployments what a gunshot sounds like and how terrifying a sound it is. I know what it feels like to be a leader, and to be responsible for the health and lives of people who look to you for direction in a crisis situation.
