Ann Thel | Application Preview
Ann Thel is applying for government grants to support her business, which aims to assist at-risk youth in developing skills in Math and Science and preparing them for college and careers. The funding will be used for the construction or purchase of a building, acquisition of furniture and technology, transportation vehicles, and to cover wages and benefits for staff. Additionally, funds will facilitate community partnerships and research to better understand and meet local needs.
The business plan focuses on collaborating with the Department of Juvenile Justice and local schools to bridge the educational gap for at-risk students. By concentrating on high school juniors and seniors, the program aims to enhance their readiness for post-secondary education. The vision extends beyond state boundaries, looking to replicate the initiative in other regions.
The rationale for funding approval emphasizes the transformative approach of the program, which empowers students to become self-sufficient, productive members of society. The company’s model aims to cultivate positive outcomes by equipping youth with necessary skills and experiences.
Competitive analysis highlights the South Carolina Youth Advocate Program and SC Youth Challenge Academy as similar organizations. However, Thel's program differentiates itself by focusing specifically on high school students pursuing diplomas, with an emphasis on Math and Science, and providing comprehensive support to facilitate their transition into adulthood. The initiative includes data collection and research to tailor its offerings effectively, alongside experiential learning opportunities such as field trips.
