Palinkas Studio | Application Preview

Palinkas Studio is applying for government grants to enhance its interior design and online retail operations. The funding will be allocated to purchase essential CAD and design rendering software, which is vital for creating high-quality construction documents. Additionally, it will support the expansion of an online home decor and art store through effective SEO marketing strategies to increase clientele and revenue. The business aims to collaborate with local Tacoma residents and businesses for building, renovating, and remodeling projects, emphasizing the importance of supporting small businesses affected by the pandemic.

The business plan outlines growth over the next five years by establishing a strong online and social media presence, networking through community involvement, and leveraging word-of-mouth referrals. The owner, an LGBTQ community member and active volunteer in Tacoma, intends to take on residential and small hospitality interior projects in the area. With experience from successful design firms since 2013, the owner is confident in achieving success as an independent designer.

Approval of the funding is framed as a community investment, aiming to provide access to high-quality design, which is integral for mental well-being. The commitment to ethical and sustainable practices includes prioritizing BIPOC and LGBTQ partnerships, embracing diversity within the design industry.

In terms of competition, the applicant acknowledges established local designers but highlights a commitment to sustainable sourcing and a curated online boutique. With over a decade of experience, along with a double degree in French and Political Science and honors from an interior design program, the owner believes this expertise offers a competitive edge in the market.

  • Funding Usage

With this funding amount I will purchase crucial CAD and design rendering software to successfully produce high quality construction documents for large interior design projects. I will also use this funding to operate and expand my online retail home decor and art store. I will implement successful SEO marketing strategies to grow my client list and generate income for myself and other tradespeople who I work with. As a residential and hospitality designer, I will work with local Tacoma area residents and businesses to build, renovate, and remodel their spaces. Funding my small business is a win for the State of Washington and for helping small buisness entrepreneurs who have been harmed unfairly from the pandemic.

  • Business Plan

I plan to grow my business in the next five years with a strong online and social media presence. I also plan to network and build my client list by work of mouth and referrals from my activity in the community. I am a member of the LGBTQ community of Tacoma and am an active volunteer. With strategic marketing, I will strive to take on local interior design projects in the Tacoma city and surrounding areas for residential and small boutique hospitality projects like retail storefronts, restaurants, and small hotels and lodges. I have experience working for very successful design firms since I entered the industry in 2013 and believe I can succeed as an independent designer with this plan. Investing in my small business will benefit the community by allowing more people access to high quality, creative design for their spaces. Improving interior spaces and one's surroundings is critical for positive and stable mental health. I am committed to operating my business ethically and sustainably, seeking vendors and clients who are BIPOC and LGBTQ help uplift and support those voices. The design industry is filled with diverse members and I am proud to be a part of it.

  • Self Identified Competition

Top 3 competitors would most likely be any local Tacoma interior designer who has a successful business. I know there are some talented designers in this town but having recently moved here 2 years ago, I recognize I am new to the city and growing a client list takes time. I am committed to sourcing sustainable products for my clients and operate an online curated boutique offering bespoke home decorations, artwork, and furnishings with over 10 years experience in the industry. I also hold a double degree in French and Political Science from Seattle University and graduated with honors from San Diego Mesa College's Interior Design Program.
