Dreamscapes by Marq 5400 | Government Grant Application

Dreamscapes by Marq | Application Preview

Dreamscapes by Marq is seeking government grants to fund business advertising, replace equipment, and hire two full-time employees. Over the next five years, the goal is to expand to ten full-time staff, primarily focusing on contracting annual flower beds and flower baskets, given the proximity to several educational institutions. The business will also offer landscaping services, including mowing, pruning, mulching, pressure washing, and installing retention walls.

A unique element of the business plan includes a mentorship program for at-risk youth, providing them with summer job opportunities and skill-building to help manage future satellite locations.

With over 30 years of experience in horticulture and landscaping, the founder is driven by a passion for the outdoors and a desire to mentor others, stemming from personal experience as an at-risk youth. Significant investment from the founder's retirement fund emphasizes a strong commitment to the business's success.

Despite competition from Willis Landscaping and Heckmen’s Lawn Care, Dreamscapes has a competitive advantage due to the founder's commercial pesticide license and extensive industry training experience. The business differentiates itself by providing services year-round, including off-season training for pesticide technicians and managing contracts for universities. The focus on landscape renovation and design, along with strategic service offerings for different seasons, positions Dreamscapes favorably in the market.

I will like to use the funds to use for business advertising, equipment replacement and to hire 2 full time employees.

  • Business Plan

In the next 5 years I will like to have 10 full time employees. Our main focus would be contracting annual flower beds, and flower baskets. As we are in an area that is close to several schools, colleges and universities. We would also have a crew that focus on landscaping services, which would include mowing, pruning, mulching, pressure washing and installing retention walls and some hard scraping. I would like to have part-time employees that would be part of a mentorship program for at risk young men and women, to help them work during the summer, teaching them the necessary skills, to manage satellite locations as the business grows. I have over 30 years of horticulture and landscaping experience. I was an at risk youth, and someone took the time to mentor me to go far beyond my economic limitations. I walked away from a job that I enjoyed so that I could start my own landscaping business and to mentor others to help them reach goals that they may never have the opportunity to do otherwise. I’m one of those people that love working outdoors, enjoying the beauty and satisfaction that comes with landscape design and installation. This is not work to me. This is fun! I have invested a large part of my retirement fund to start the business. I believe in it that much and I am serious about the success of the business!

  • Self Identified Competition

Willis Landscaping, and Heckmen’s Lawn Care and Maintenance are our top three competition. They all put must of their focus on lawn care during the summer months. We do not. I have a commercial pesticide license and I started and ran the pesticide program at a university for 20 years so I spend time doing the off season training, people to become registered technicians so that they can apply Pesticides for different colleges, universities, and other landscape companies. We also provide annual flower beds/baskets service contract services for different universities and colleges during the winter time. During the spring and summer we focus on landscape renovation and installation, gardens, mulching, pruning, and mowing contract services.
