Tiny Oven Baking Company LLC | Application Preview
Tiny Oven Baking Company LLC is seeking government grants to transform a living space into a micro-bakery and enhance their branding and advertising efforts. The funding will enable the business to increase production, allowing participation in local farmer's markets and boosting online sales.
Their business strategy focuses on reaching customers within a 50-mile radius, where there's a notable demand for sourdough products and currently no dedicated sourdough bakery. Plans include establishing a storefront and exploring wholesale opportunities, which would not only support other local businesses but also enable them to offer community classes and expand their online presence.
The company emphasizes the importance of supporting local businesses and sourcing ingredients within a 100-mile radius. They target a market that isn't fully tapped in Dodge City, where larger retail chains dominate. Competition comes from a few local bakers and retail bakery chains, but Tiny Oven distinguishes itself with a unique menu centered on sourdough products not widely available nearby. Their commitment to quality and community engagement sets them apart, as customers can connect personally with the brand while enjoying distinct, locally sourced baked goods.

Business Plan
We plan to develop our base to reach interested customers within a 50-mile radius. There are currently no sourdough bakeries in the area but a high interest in the product. In the short term, increased production would allow us to participate in the local farmer's market and increase our online ordering. We want to look at growing our business into a storefront and adding wholesale to support other local businesses. Having a commercial space would also allow us to expand our content for social media and offer classes to the community, adding additional revenue streams. Our focus is on increasing awareness of the importance of supporting local businesses. Currently, Dodge City does not have a dedicated bakery that is not in a retail chain. We aim to support local businesses, such as Heartland Mills, and source as many ingredients within a 100-mile radius. Our focused menu keeps us dipping into saturated home-baker markets, such as decorated cookies, cakes, and cupcakes.

Self Identified Competition
Our top three competitors are another sourdough home baker; a bakery in Cimarron, KS, which is 20 miles away; and two local retail chains with attached bakeries. What makes us different is our focused menu of unique items, our use of sourdough in our recipes, and our image. We purposely chose items for our menu that are not readily available in the area. Most people would have to drive two hours if they wanted a sourdough batard or a babka. Our sourdough emphasis appeals to a crowd willing and eager to buy products made simply and naturally. And people can go to pick up a loaf of bread at most local retailers, but it won't be an enriched pain de mie made with local ingredients. We are also active in the local community. People can put a face to our product and know who their money is supporting.
