  • Funding Usage

This funding will go towards the creation of Magic Forest Retreat Center This facility is already under construction. We need funding for labor, materials, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, yoga equipment, and broadcasting equipment.

  • Business Plan

We specialize in high quality yoga events and instruction that is unavailable elsewhere in our state or country. We have invested in camera equipment and are running more and more of our courses online. The majority of our income has always come from workshops and trainings. By creating Magic Forest Retreat Center we plan to focus on what we do best. This facility will be equipped with outdoor yoga facilities and a specially ventilated practice room so that we can deal with the challenges of the covid pandemic. This will give us a distinct advantage over our competitors. We will earn a secondary income by providing accommodation at our retreat center and by renting our space for other events such as weddings etc. Ashtanga Yoga Studio was the first yoga studio to open in Norman Ok. 21 years ago. We have served our community by providing free instruction to underprivileged people and have always had a policy of never turning anyone away for financial reasons. Our classes have benefited many people who otherwise could not have afforded yoga classes. We have brought a steady stream on international world class yoga teachers to Norman Oklahoma and we have literally put Oklahoma on the map internationally for high quality yoga instruction. Many of the best yoga teachers in the state are graduates of our Teacher Training Program. We work closely with Samskriti Foundation in Mysore India to help preserve and decipher ancient Indian yoga manuscripts. We are involved in ongoing research to discover new information in our field. In 2016 we released a documentary film in which we uncovered new information about the history of modern yoga. The film can be viewed at www.mysoreyogatraditions.com. Additionally we facilitate an annual yoga conference in Mysore India in which senior Sanskrit scholars, and spiritual leaders in their community, some of whom have visited to lead workshops in the past. We are planning outreach programs for veterans and underprivileged children here in our community Yoga is a business like any other in some ways. By hosting international teachers, running courses and trainings that cannot be found elsewhere we bring people to our state and contribute to the local economy.

  • Self Identified Competition

On the local level Norman has several other yoga studios. Yoga Life, Space and Yoga Barre are probably the most established. They are actually owned by old friends and acquaintances. On the international front, our top competitors are SOAS School of African and Asian Studies in London, Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Germany and the K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore India. Again all of them are friends and acquaintances who we have great friendships with although we have differing opinions in some areas. Many of the things stated above distinguish us form other yoga businesses. On the local front, we have been in business for much longer, we bring international teachers, travel extensively doing workshops, and we are involved in ongoing research on an international level. None of the local yoga studios can say these things. We are well known and respected in the Oklahoma yoga community. On the international front, competition is much more intense. It is not so much a competition for students as a competition to make different kinds of contributions to the field of yoga and yoga research. As the director and producer of the film Mysore Yoga Traditions, our studio formed an alliance with Samskriti Foundation in Mysore India. We specialize in bringing authentic Indian cultural views into the international yoga community. We have sought out and given a voice to many scholars and yogis which had never had an opportunity to share their teachings with an international audience before. Again our top competitors are more colleagues than competitors. Our angle of research however is unique and sets us apart.
