Dream Big Youth Mentoring Program LTD 84-2993800 | Government Grant Application

Dream Big Youth Mentoring Program LTD | Application Preview

The Dream Big Youth Mentoring Program LTD is applying for government grants to support its mission of helping at-risk juveniles. The funding will be utilized for several key purposes: acquiring a building to serve as the program's headquarters, purchasing a van to transport youths to school and activities, and obtaining hygiene items, school clothes, and supplies.

The program's business plan anticipates growth over the next five years through positive word of mouth, social media presence, and media coverage. The founder, a police officer with six years of experience as a school resource officer, has firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by at-risk youth. After creating a program to assist these individuals, he found that the initiative faltered when he was promoted and could no longer dedicate time to it. Concerned parents have reached out as their children began to struggle again, prompting him to establish a nonprofit to continue his work.

The unique aspect of the program is the direct involvement of the police officer, who fosters discipline, respect, and a spirit of service through activities like visiting nursing homes to engage with residents. The program currently serves 20 to 30 juveniles at a time and has a strong community presence with increasing demand from parents seeking help for their children.

With no competitors in the area, the program can expand significantly with additional funding. The founder aims to provide essential resources such as snacks, clothing, and school supplies to enhance the support for these youths, believing that investing in their development is crucial for a better future.

  • Business Plan

My business will grow throughout the next 5 years due to “word of mouth”, social media exposure, and the media. I bring my at-risk juveniles to various nursing homes. The at-risk juveniles and I typically polish female residents nails, play bingo, and/or checkers with residents. I strive to instill discipline, respect, & selfless service in the juveniles I mentor. I’m a police officer that has specifically worked in the schools as a school resource officer for the past 6 years. I started mentoring children and created a program for my police department to help at-risk juveniles. I received a promotion and no longer work in the schools. The program I created suffered because no officer wanted to invest the time needed to keep it going. Parents started reaching out to me because the kids I helped started reverting back to their old ways which involved them being disrespectful, skipping school, and making bad grades. I created my own nonprofit organization to help the juveniles. All the at-risk juveniles need is someone to care and help them along the way. I’m already established in my community. Parents and juveniles know me and value the work I do with at-risk juveniles. I set goals for them and help them to reach those goals. I frequently bring my group of juveniles to visit various nursing homes. The juveniles and I play checkers, bingo, read to, and polish nails of elderly residents. My trips to the nursing homes helped to instill respect, discipline, and selfless service in juveniles. There are no juvenile programs in my area that assist at-risk juveniles. I service 20 to 30 juveniles at a time. I could service much more if I had more funding. I purchase and issue at-risk juveniles, snacks, clothing, hygiene items, and school supplies. I’m sure once I get funding and/or investors I will be able to help more juveniles and work with them full-time. Children are our future! I consider the work I do with them as an investment into our future.

  • Self Identified Competition

There are no known competitors in my area. I have parents contacting me it seems every other day pleading with me to make room in my program for another child. I currently have no competitors. One thing that makes my program different from other youth mentoring programs is the youth get to work with a police officer (me) often. Together we do a lot of community service and hands on activities to help them to be productive members of society.
