Point Taps, Self pour taproom | Application Preview
Point Taps is applying for government grants to assist in launching a self pour taproom that emphasizes a clean and high-standard environment for craft beer tasting. The business plans to generate growth through social media promotions, sponsorship of local youth sports teams, and hosting charitable events for causes like Alzheimer's and cancer. Networking events will also play a key role in building the business.
The rationale for funding approval highlights the lack of self pour taprooms within a 30-minute radius of Yorktown, a tourist-friendly area expected to attract significant foot traffic. Positioned along Route 17, a busy thoroughfare, Point Taps aims to meet local demand.
Competitive analysis reveals three main competitors: York River Oyster Company, known for its popular food and waterfront setting; Damon's Sports Bar and Grill, a local favorite with outdoor space but a more casual atmosphere; and Gloucester Brewing Company, a small brewery offering a family-friendly environment with food trucks.
Point Taps sets itself apart with its unique self pour model that enhances customer experience. Patrons check their ID, receive a wristband, and can pour their own craft beer from 25 taps, all while monitoring their alcohol consumption through a sophisticated software system. This innovative approach not only fosters a fun atmosphere but also promotes responsible drinking by regulating the amount each customer can consume.

Business Plan
Point Taps will continue to grow through social medial, sponsoring local youth sports teams, host special events for charitable causes such as Alzheimer's, cancer etc. and business building through networking events. I feel as though we can bring a much higher standard of self pour taproom to the public. There is no self pour competition within a 30 minute drive of the selected location. Yorktown being a tourist area will generate sufficient foot traffic as well as the local desire for such a location. Point taps will be located on route 17, a high traffic route up the east coast.

Self Identified Competition
#1. York River oyster Company- My wife and I frequent this location often as they have great food and a waterfront environment. There is always a wait to get in. Excellent location for food and drink. #2. Damon's sports bar and grill- A local favorite. This location has decent food and plenty of outdoor space. Service is ok. The environment is not for everyone. #3. Gloucester Brewing Company- A local small brewery with 15 beers available. Food trucks usually on site. I enjoy this location as well; very inclusive to all ages and animals. A self pour taproom eliminates the waitress. Customers enter the facility, get an ID check and exchange currency for a wristband that allows them to grab a glass and pour their own beer up to a regulated alcohol by volume(ABV) amount. The ipourit software keeps track of the ABV each beer has and only allows the customer to consume a controlled amount of alcohol per visit before their wristband becomes inactive. If you don't like the beer you pour, try all 25 taps, one ounce at a time.
