Pollen8 Houseplants and Landscape Design Pollen8 Houseplants and Landscape Design | Government Grant Application

Pollen8 Houseplants and Landscape Design | Application Preview

Pollen8 Houseplants and Landscape Design is applying for government grants to enhance the community in Atlanta by offering classes on landscaping and the significance of pollinators. The funding will also be used to improve the storefront and expand the plant inventory, allowing the business to provide affordable plants compared to traditional nurseries.

The business plan includes reaching out to local businesses for landscaping services and establishing a second location in Atlanta. This would consist of a dedicated retail space for plants and an office for landscaping services.

The applicant, a dedicated single woman with seven years of experience as a plant hobbyist, has faced challenges due to the writers' strike in the film industry. She is eager to build a business that reflects her passion for plants and her desire to assist others.

In terms of competition, Pollen8 faces notable establishments like The Victorian, Lowes/Home Depot, and Pikes. However, the unique concept of the shop being themed like an old video rental store sets it apart. This nostalgic approach promises to attract customers looking for both plants and a memorable shopping experience, with movies playing in the background to enhance the ambiance. The owner believes this innovative twist will resonate with shoppers, making it a successful venture.

  • Funding Usage

I plan on using this funding to better the community of Atlanta by offering then classes on landscaping and the importance of pollinators in our city. I will also use the funding to spruce up my storefront and buy more plants and sell them at a way lower price than most traditional nurseries. Everyone deserves to be surrounded by nature inside and out.

  • Business Plan

I plan to reach out to local business owners and offer landscaping to them. I would love to have another location somewhere in Atlanta. I want to have a retail space for just the plant side and I want to have a landscaping office for the other part of my business. I’m a hardworking single woman. Ive been a plant hobbiest for 7 years now while working in the film industry. I’ve come upon hard times due to the writers strike and had to pull myself up and start something for myself. I’m smart, responsible, and love helping people.

  • Self Identified Competition

The Victorian- a rare cactus shop Lowes/Home Depot-who can beat big box stores? Pikes- they carry a ton of plants but none that are super popular and in right now. My business is going to be themed like an old video rental store (blockbuster, Hollywood video). I know it’s going to be a success because of this unique twist on a plant shop. Instead of just a normal plant store you’re going to be hit with an overwhelming sense on nostalgia when you enter my store. Nostalgia sells big. Everyone misses things from when they were growing up so I’m giving them a chance to relive that experience while shopping for gorgeous plants. Movies will be playing everywhere. It’s going to be an amazing space.
