  • Funding Usage

This would mainly be used for payroll for our employees. ~$78,316.42 will be needed to cover our employees for eight weeks of pay. At this time that is what is estimated for the pandemic/our office to be closed for routine eye care. Our office has numerous other fees and expenses but this grant would allow us to provide pay to our employees during this crisis. The remaining $11K would be used for other expenses over the next eight weeks

  • Business Plan

Our business has grown exponentially over the past decade, with the addition of 2 optometrists and an additional 10 staff. We our currently building a new location within our community to better serve our patients. At this time our location is at its capacity for seeing patients providing quality services in a timely manner. We intend to expand our optometric scope of practice to provide additional services such as laser procedures, placement of amniotic membranes and minor surgical procedures. With increasing the size of our facility we will be able to provide more exams and services to our patients without them having to wait weeks for an appointment. At our current practice we see patients for two full-time optometrists five days a week. At the new facility we will be able to have three full-time optometrists five days a week. Which also means increase in employment for our community. King’s Eye Care is a family owned practice which takes pride in being a small business in Berea, Kentucky for forty years. We strive to provide an environment that is comfortable and friendly by using our expertise and state of the art equipment. We know and treat our patients like family. Our staff is why we are so successful, with great customer service which is confirmed by our 4.8 star google rating we want to continue to contribute our services to the community. During the pandemic small businesses across the country will and are suffering, us included. My main concern is for my employees and I want to provide any assistance that I can and still have a business to grow in the future.

  • Self Identified Competition

In Berea, Kentucky currently there are two other optical locations in the area, Wal-Mart and Berea Optical. Our third competition we would consider to be Richmond Eye Care which has multiple locations across the state. Wal-Mart has an optical for selling of glasses and contacts, which stays busy due to location. Wal-Mart will continue to be open during this pandemic unsure if the optical will still be available for patients or not. Berea Optical is a smaller practice opened 5 days per week, which only see’s patients ~ 2-3 days per week. I am sure they are going thru the same decrease in business and patients since mandated due to the pandemic. King’s Eye Care is a family owned practice for 40 years. Dr. Gary King started the practice and was the town’s optometrist for 32 years before his daughter Dr. Sarah King joined the practice. We take pride in our community by sponsoring different sport leagues over the years, contributing to festivals and being a member of our local Lion’s Club and Berea Chamber of Commerce. We take time for patient’s by treating them like family and we don’t ever push extra add-ons or up sell a patient. Most optical shops pay optical employee’s based off commission from up selling products to patients. We do not pay based off commission, we train and expect our staff to provide and recommend what is needed specifically for each patient.
