Lakewood Co. is seeking government grants to develop Lakewood Retreat Farm on a recently acquired 13.9 acres of wooded land in Roxboro, NC. The grant funding will be allocated for constructing three A-framed rental properties, setting up a workshop for a gourmet mushroom farm, and creating pick-your-own gardens and orchards, alongside establishing a small hobby farm and a comprehensive road system. Staff costs will also be covered.
The business plan outlines a timeline where construction and property development occur in the first year, followed by marketing and growth strategies aimed at hosting weddings, retreats, and similar events from years 2 to 5.
The proposal argues for funding approval based on the applicant's extensive experience in program planning and skills as a Registered Dietitian, especially in the Farm to Early Childcare and Education sector. This expertise positions them well to manage the garden, mushroom farm, orchards, and animal farm effectively.
Lakewood Retreat Farm distinguishes itself with a unique business model, facing no direct competitors in the area. The competitive edge lies in offering distinctive experiences such as rental lodgings, farm animals, and interactive activities like sound baths, bee therapy huts, and forest bathing. Additionally, the farm plans to operate as a self-sustaining business through the sale of gourmet mushrooms.
