Adam Barley Music, LLC | Application Preview
Adam Barley Music, LLC is applying for government grants to sustain and expand its music teaching business during the COVID-19 pandemic. The funding will be used to cover home studio expenses and facilitate both online lessons and in-home visits for students in the local area. There is a strong recognition of the value of music lessons during this time, and Adam aims to continue providing these services with the support of the grant.
The business plan focuses on expanding private music lessons and live music performances in the community. Adam envisions eventually owning a professional studio and hiring assistants while maintaining direct involvement in teaching and music production. Key offerings include high-quality music for special events and regional performances, contributing to the local cultural landscape.
Adam highlights his extensive experience as a professional musician, including earning a Master's Degree in Music and building a full-time career in the field. This dedication and expertise underpin the request for funding, which he believes will enable him to grow his business in Charleston.
Regarding competition, Adam notes that other local music lesson providers operate differently, often involving multiple instructors and less personalized instruction. He emphasizes that his approach allows for tailored lessons without intermediaries, ensuring consistency and quality. This direct involvement and commitment to individual student success distinguishes his business in a crowded market, where larger operations may not offer the same level of attention or customer service.

Funding Usage
I plan on using grant funds to help my business stay afloat amid the COVID-19 pandemic. I was forced out of my teaching studio, but would love the ability to start teaching again in a professional space. The grant money will allow me to support my home studio costs so I can continue doing Zoom lessons with my students and travel to students homes within my zip code to provide lessons in their homes. I have seen how much people value music lessons during this time and I hope to continue with the help of this grant.

Business Plan
I plan on continuing to broaden the reach of private music lessons and live music in my local community. I hope to eventually have my own professional studio space and hire an assistant or two. I would like to keep it small so I am directly involved in the instruction and music production. Providing quality music for special events such as weddings, private parties, and religious services is a vital aspect of our community, and I plan on continuing to establish myself as one of the most valued musicians for such events. Regarding music performance, I have started to tour regionally throughout the southeast and I plan on continuing to grow my performing career as well. I have been a professional musician for many years now. The last few years have been an incredible culmination of a life dedicated to music. I finished my Masters Degree in Music in 2009, and have finally began to earn a full time living with my craft. It has taken years of hard work and focused determination. I will continue to work with the same tenacity and commitment as I seek to grow my business in the Charleston area.

Self Identified Competition
The music lesson providers in my area are much different from my operation, which is run just by myself. People can go receive lessons from a variety of businesses, but I offer direct lessons with no "middle man" providing specific instruction to meet all my clients needs. The previous answer addresses this question. If students want to receive music lessons from someone assigned to them by a store manager then they can go to the following businesses: Bach to Rock, FAME Performing Arts, or East Cooper Music Lessons. Those places are fine, but there is no way to guarantee the consistency and quality I offer. For example, I have worked in establishments such as Bach to Rock and the instructors are often times quality teachers, but can lack overall teaching experience and expertise. Additionally, due to instructors not owning the business, or as involved in parent/student interaction, there can be a missing piece of customer service. It is quite similar to smaller classrooms versus larger classrooms - students receive more direct and specific instruction and attention in a smaller classroom. I provide a small business focused on individual success. I would only look to grow within this context.
