  • Funding Usage

We would like to have the option of adding an in person meal once/week. This would double our food costs and we would have certain equipment needs that we dont currently have since our meal program is delivery based currently.

  • Business Plan

We have just launched a campaign with the goal of raising $1 million that could serve as an endowment with the idea that the interest generated would pay for the cost (or most of the cost) of our entire program, allowing volunteers to focus on expanding our reach and services without having to devote time on an ongoing basis to fund raising. We kicked off the campaign with a virtual auction, and have several fund raising events planned for summer of 2024. We are living proof that if you set your mind to something and persist, it can be achieved. Founded at the start of the pandemic around a dining room table, we opened our doors initially to help those who had lost jobs, or were too afraid to leave their homes as a result of the pandemic. What we discovered was that food insecurity is a persistent issue in this otherwise wealthy second home community. Working with the local school, police department and health facilities we identified those most in need and started delivering our meals once/week. We are about to reach our 25,000 meal served and have not missed one week of service since the pandemic began. We serve a community that is in great need, but whose members are proud, and do not like "hand-outs." It is in part because we provide meals on a no names basis and perhaps more importantly that we do not require people to "qualify" or demonstrate why they need our meals, that our clients are receptive to getting help from us. We are committed to continuing to provide and expand the services we offer while preserving the dignity of those who receive our meals.

  • Self Identified Competition

We do not have any competitors. Unfortunately there is no other meal service that operates in Truro. We differ from other meal providers in several ways. First we have no qualification requirements, other than a stated need for help. We believe that need looks different to different people, and it is not for us to judge who "really" needs our help. We deliver meals on a no names basis and cater to dietary restrictions. We understand that the greatest health issue on the outer cape is social isolation, and have been told that for some of our recipients the only human contact they have is with our drivers. We are also entirely volunteer operated and run (with the exception of a person who cleans the kitchen and a seasonal cook who helps out in winter months when volunteers are scarce). We are truly by the community for the community and have observed that our volunteers get as much out of working in the kitchen as our meal recipients get in receiving our meals.
